Western Digital is celebrating the upcoming release of Windows 8 with a brand-new product—and releasing it the same day as Microsoft’s new operating system. The new My Passport Enterprise is a portable hard drive designed to work with Microsoft’s Windows To Go.
That basically means that you can take Windows 8 with you, on a bootable USB drive. So yes, even if you plug it into a Windows 7 machine, you will be able to access all of the goodness of Windows 8.
Other features include 500GB of storage in a portable package, BitLocker full disk encryption, and security measures to make sure no data is left on the host computer. WD also promises a speedy setup, via the WD Compass utility included with My Passport Enterprise.
“My Passport Enterprise is an excellent solution for users who need to use their Windows 8 corporate environment from any compatible computer,” said Thomas Gallivan, vice president of marketing for WD’s SMB solutions group. “When businesses use My Passport with Windows To Go, employees have the ability to use their same settings and apps on multiple computers, at home or in-office. We see My Passport Enterprise helping increase employee productivity and efficiency for corporate customers while also providing the workplace flexibility that employees are looking for.”
My Passport Enterprise will start selling this Friday, October 26, with an MSRP of $119.99. It comes with 2-year limited warranty.
