RealPresence Mobile 1.3 allows far-end camera control, Resource Manager now supports 10,000 devices.

Polycom Inc. announces the release of Polycom RealPresence Mobile 1.3 as an update to their mobile videconferencing platform part of RealPresence. With the update, RealPresence mobile can now be used on HTC One smartphones and the HTC Jestream tablet—the new iPad can also support the mobile app.
According to Laura Marx, senior director for the Mobility Go To Market, Polycom, “RealPresence is expanding. This is our first Android smartphone.”
RealPresence Mobile 1.3 now supports a new camera control feature, giving users the option to manipulate the camera — pan, tilt and zoom — on the other end of a face-to-face video meeting. With the app, those engaged in videoconferencing can pan, zoom or tilt the camera they are in conversation with for better videoconferencing control.
Market applications for the new RealPresence 1.3 include healthcare, corporate, education and manufacturing. With the new control features included with the mobile app, users can now define the function of the opposite camera to use videoconferencing.
According to Polycom, health care providers are already using RealPresence mobile software to treat stroke victims and better manage remote medical applications more efficiently.

Marx says, “It is just like zooming in on a photo in the iPad. They don’t have to direct the nurse to move the camera up or to the left. Not only are they saving lives but they have the added benefit of saving cost in post stroke treatment.”
More specifically, Orlando Health has taken advantage of the efficient RealPresence Platform to aid their Neurology staff better treat their patients.
Marx continues, “Orlando Health Series of hospitals has only a handful of neurologists. Stroke is a huge issue for Florida. It is a particular problem there [because of the aging population]. They are using RealPresence practitioner carts (a monitor and a camera) to assess a stroke victim from anywhere and they can control the camera.”
“Time is of the essence and can make a difference in the outcome of the patient’s health,” she says. “The camera can help doctors make a diagnosis and determine whether to administer medication that can be life saving or that can significantly improve the outcome of the patient’s recovery,” she adds.
Polycom also announced a new scalability enhancement to the RealPresence Platform. Polycom has double the Resource Manager’s scalability, allowing IT directors to manage their videoconferencing networks with more ease.
