Power protection always seems to be an afterthought—until you get zapped, of course. Losing hundreds or even thousands of dollars in equipment can certainly change your priorities. If you’re looking to protect that pricey AV setup, Panamax has a little something new for its popular MR Series.
The company just debuted the MR4300 and MR5100. These new power management products have the company’s Protect or Disconnect and Automatic Voltage Monitoring (AVM) circuitry. However, as updates to the PM family, Panamax is also adding Linear Noise Filtration and a new design into the mix.
That Linear Noise Filtration helps to fix the problems of “contaminated” power, including loss of detail, pops, hisses, hums, and visual artifacts. Designed for moderately sized systems, the MR4300 has Linear Level 3 Noise Filtration, while the MR5100 features Linear Level 4 Noise Filtration for a high level of performance even in complex noise-prone systems
Both units have multiple isolation banks and Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT), promising incredible overall AV performance.
The MR4300 has eight surge-protected outlets on the rear panel with an extra conveniently located on the front panel. The MR5100 puts 10 on the rear and one on the front panel. Both also have dedicated coaxial, telephone, and LAN pass-through protection ports, as well as one high-current outlet bank containing four outlets. The MR5100 adds in power sequencing of two outlet banks during start-up and shutdown, preventing damaging speaker thumps and tripped circuit breakers.
Each of the new models have decorative and media lights, which can be dimmed or turned off completely to eliminate distractions. Equally graceful on a shelf, in a cabinet, or in a rack, the 1-RU MR4300 may be mounted with an optional rack-mount kit (sold separately), while the 2-RU MR5100 ships with the optional rack-mount kit included.
“The MR series represents professional-level technology in the most affordable family of component power management solutions ever offered by Panamax,” said John Benz, director of power and accessories for Core Brands. “With their rock-solid protection and Linear Noise Filtration, the MR4300 and MR5100 truly are the foundation of power performance in any home theater system. And while other power management products are designed to live quietly behind the scenes, the MR units are ready for the spotlight, providing a sleek, modern look to complement today’s A/V components.”
Panamax will start selling the MR4300 and MR5100 in late October 2012 with MSRPs of $299.95 and $439.95, respectively.
