First it should be noted that the overall Planar Systems booth design is really engaging and warm. It has a different feel from all of the other booths that have more of a trade show feel.
The designer-side of me was piqued as I spent time in this booth. The first thing to grab my attention was long wall of asymmetrically placed video tiles in three different sizes. One tile in particular stood out because it was square — which is a unique shape for a video panel. In fact it is unique to Planar. The ability to design moving imagery in this way must an architectural designers dream come true. I can see the Planar Mosaic Architectural Displays in the lobby of any grand facility.
From there, I was intrigued by the Planar LookThru Transparent LCD Retail Box. As its name suggests, the panel is transparent with optional touch interactivity. I am seeing this application being used in museums to create an interactive display for items that you would want more information than the small amount of text that fits on the card hanging on the wall.
Then, as cool as cool gets — Planar was showing its transparent display integrated into door of a refrigerator revealing the contents inside.
These were only three of the standout products from the Planar booth. We will soon post additional articles and video.
