it was being heard.
Thankfully, there is an app for that.
As the worlds of mobile technology and physical hardware continue to converge, audio companies have taken the opportunity to make the job of the sound person notably more convenient with console control apps. A console control app allows users to adjust system mixes from anywhere in a venue, auditorium, house of worship or anywhere else live sound is being monitored via a Wi-Fi connection. These apps are brand specific — a mixing console will have its own custom made control app for a handful of boards within a specific series or for a specific manufacturer.
These apps are seamless re-creations of the physical board, and in some cases the device being used to control the app may very well be the only control for the board. Generally, these apps run specifically on tablet technologies — a tablet is the ideal size for laying out a mixing console efficiently.
What is especially convenient about these apps is their ability to run multiple devices simultaneously. With this feature, a console controllable device can be given to multiple performers for customizable mix control. Regardless, the sound person now has the freedom to stand on stage with the performers and get face-to-face feedback about the mix with immediate results.
When time is running out and staffing is short, getting the best direction on the sound mix is important. Getting away from the board and experiencing the mix in person can be the best option for tweaking the levels perfectly, and with a mobile app for controlling a specific mixing console, gauging the sound and editing the sound levels remotely is the most efficient option for presenting the best sounding experience possible.
