We’re seeing a lot of interesting innovations at this week’s CEDIA Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana—and many are directed to the commercial market.

Control4 just announced an interesting update to its automation operating system. The company promises a new lighting experience, as well as other enhancements.

The upgrade will put the same clean, intuitive UI across all control interfaces, for easy control throughout any business from a variety of devices. Some of those control options include smartphones, tablets, touchscreens, and even TVs. Other features include new personalization and editing capabilities, and a Preference Default feature that can set an on-screen default based on your previous use.

Control4 also plans to roll out something called the Advanced Lighting Scenes Agent. This will allow dealers to program sophisticated lighting effects, via single-button on/off toggles for scenes, tracking and display of lighting scene states, configuration of advanced scene ramping/fading, and much more.

The new update will also include a few new features specifically geared towards commercial applications. These include customization via enhanced Themes SDK, password protection with the Access Agent, a Tandberg driver for support for teleconference systems, and the new FieldServer driver. The latter allows for support for commercial HVAC systems through the FieldServer Technologies’ QuickServer Gateway enabling automation access to Delta Controls, GE, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Mitsubishi, Rockwell and other thermostats over device networks including BACnet, Lonworks, Modbus, and more via serial, bus or TCP/IP.

Control4 is expected to launch the OS 2.3 update in the fourth quarter of 2012.
