In looking for alternatives for the iOS 6 Maps, I found Google Maps Navigation in Beta. But it is only for Android users.
By Cindy Davis

I am one of the many iPhone 5, iOS 6 users that is unhappy that Apple can’t play nice and took away Google Maps. Yes—I know all about “big business,” but I thought best business practices and a company like Apple put the customer first. Wrong.

Okay—I was only somewhat unhappy about the loss of Google Maps because what I really needed was turn-by-turn which is why I purchased the $49.99 Garmin app for my iPhone 4S. It worked just fine. I used Google Maps for walking in cities, when I wanted to check out general directions and to check out the street view before I got into the car. And since no GPS is 100 percent accurate I would compare the two to see which one was giving me the best directions.

My biggest issue was that Apple took something away. I was naive to assume that they would replace Google Maps with something equally as good or actually better. While I didn’t have any personal problems in my first outing using the new Maps for iOS 6, I have heard that Apple Maps for iOS 6 has wiped some cities clear off the “Map.” Now that’s not a good thing. So I am setting out to find a better app.

In doing my research for a round up of map apps for iOS 6, I thought I’d see just what would work from Google on iOS 6 when I found their site for Google Maps Navigation which is currently in beta. Oh—it’s only for Android users. I know—I get it. It’s a war of the businesses. Okay Google—at least offer a version us iOS folks can pay for. Clearly we don’t mind plunking down serious money for stuff we like.
